GOP: Gays Openly Persecuted?

Most of us have been taught that a house divided can not stand, but no one knows exactly when such a house will fall, especially if it is filled beyond maximum capacity by squatters with nowhere else to go. As a left-leaning libertarian, I understand full well how this political claustrophobia can feel, but my own sense of alienation pales in comparison to the plight of homosexual Republicans. The Chicago Tribune and The Orlando Weekly carry the story.

Abrahadabra; the reward of Ra Hoor Khut

For those who know the date, and will and dare to celebrate, I wish a happy centennial. To the rest of you still occupied by politics, I offer this little interlude.

I just purchased this T-shirt… in buying it, my only desire was to relive my youthful hacker days and proudly proclaim my nerdiness to the world. Yet the more I meditate on the slogan, the more it confirms my current political apathy and my voting plans for November. It was truly a wise and learned sage that said all true wisdom is found on T-shirts. Don’t believe me? Click here.

These are fools that men adore. A plague on both their houses, though there we live.

01 April 2004

It’s April Fools Day, and the joke is on me.

I have fallen victim to the vast conspiracy of lowered expectations. My interest in politics at anything other than a theoretical level has ebbed and waned; my optimism is a perverse caricature of its former self, like Ibbieta in Sartre’s prison… now I only hope that they kill us without much pain.

The election is just half a year away, and I find myself happy about President Bush’s reelection. Dare I say that I’m looking forward to it? With the resentment and bitterness born of the 2000 recount nourishing leftists like heavenly manna, I had assumed that the Democrats could run a photogenic block of wood against Bush and win by a sizable margin… and this is, of course, the strategy that they have chosen.

Did you see Kerry on MTV? Strike photogenic. Bush is at least personable as he loads the nation into the Halliburton Hell-bound Handbasket… with any luck I’ll be able to smile and nod my way through four more years.

Four more years. November fools.
